In 1997, AEF Global was founded with a primary focus on developing a range of Bacillus thuringiensis-based products to combat the spruce budworm in the forestry sector.
This achievement made AEF Global one of the three global producers of Btk for forestry and agricultural uses. Subsequently, AEF Global successfully shifted to the commercialization of products in the Canadian agricultural sector.
The introduction of the “Pesticide Management Code” by the provincial government in 2003 created a first market opportunity for AEF Global in the ornamental horticulture sector and retail garden products. Seizing this opportunity, the company developed, produced, and marketed nearly fifty retail products now distributed in numerous garden centers and hardware stores, as well as several major chains across Canada. Since 2009, the Government of Quebec has used the biopesticide Bioprotec HP as part of its annual intervention program in response to the return of a spruce budworm (SBW) epidemic.
